May 31st, 2006

Maybank is committed to maintaining a high standard of corporate governance and good corporate social responsibility as part of its business mission said its Deputy President, Dato’ Mohammed Hussein when receiving the Malaysian Business Award in the Corporate Social Responsibility category.
“Our philosophy is to grow with responsibility and to contribute meaningfully towards social and community related projects.

While we consistently strive for operational and financial excellence, we also give due focus to the needs of the community where we operate, particularly those who are less privileged, those who represent the future of the country, those who bring glory to the nation through sports as well as those who enrich our cultural heritage,” said Dato’ Mohammed Hussein after receiving the award from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister of Malaysia at the award ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur today. He added that Maybank’s growth philosophy will further ensure that our contributions towards these areas can be sustained in the future. “Maybank has contributed significantly over the years for community projects mainly focusing on health and medical, education, welfare, sports and the arts. This year, we have committed over RM13 million in such programmes and we will continue to support the needs of the community particularly in these areas,” added the Deputy President. On Maybank’s award as runner-up in the Corporate Governance Award, Dato’ Mohammed Hussein said that Maybank has always strived to exceed global best practices in corporate governance. “The award we received today is a recognition that will spur us to attain even higher levels of corporate governance in a changing business environment,” he said. –www.theasianbanker.com (May 30  2006)–
