China: ABN AMRO Mellon opens representative office in Beijing

June 30th, 2006

ABN AMRO Mellon Global Securities Services B.V. has further expanded its geographical presence with the opening of a Representative Office in Beijing, People’s Republic of China. The office will serve as a local liaison for marketing ABN AMRO Mellon solutions to key Chinese prospects and managing relations with clients in China.
Located on the premises of ABN AMRO Beijing at Kerry Centre, the Representative Office will be run by our chief representative, Terry Zhou Quangong.

Terry has broad experience of the Chinese market, having worked at a major domestic Chinese bank, the Chinese Securities Regulatory Commission and a local mutual fund. Nadine Chakar, CEO, ABN AMRO Mellon, said: “ABN AMRO has had a presence in China for a century, and the Beijing office now gives ABN AMRO Mellon a foothold in a country with the world’s largest population – 1.3bn individuals. It is an investment in the future that will support our growth for years to come.” William Mak, General Manager for Asia, responsible for ABN AMRO Mellon’s sales, relationship management and strategic activities in the region, said China presents immense opportunities. “The market is in the midst of major change, including significant financial and pension reform. Its population is growing wealthier and living longer. Along with India, China is projected to become a financial superpower within a decade,” he said. “We are prepared to meet the changing asset management needs of a population dealing with both retirement and the challenges of investing excess wealth. And as legislation allows for greater investment of wealth outside of the country, there will be a great need for a global custodian such as ABN AMRO Mellon.” –www.theasianbanker.com (June 30 2006)–
