Hitachi Data Systems Announces Worldwide Business Performance and New Innovations for Thailand

June 30th, 2006

Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, provider of Application Optimized Storage? solutions and a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today announced its annual business performance for fiscal year 2005 (ending 31 March 2006) with record revenues of US$ 2.8 billion.

Hitachi’s stellar performance is driven by its successful launch of storage virtualization 18 months ago which has since been implemented in over 3,000 sites globally. “Hitachi is enabling companies of all sizes to truly realize the business benefits of AOS solutions, as now even the smallest companies can enjoy the benefits of virtualization by optimizing the performance of their most pressing business applications—such as Microsoft Exchange or Oracle Financials—utilizing the Logical Partitioning capabilities of Hitachi’s integrated fleet of solutions,” said Taveesak Saengthong, Country Manager, Hitachi Data Systems – Thailand. “Our performance truly demonstrates the strength of our AOS strategy in helping organizations reduce IT expenses by millions of baht annually while increasing efficiencies in managing a heterogeneous storage environment.” Application Optimized Storage? (AOS) is HDS’ strategy to help customers align business and IT by optimizing storage infrastructure and management with application requirements based upon price, performance, availability, and functionality. The AOS strategy includes the world’s first Storage Virtualization under the brand name TagmaStore “Universal Storage Platform (USP)” and “Network Storage Controller (NSC)” to offer interoperability among various storage systems such as EMC, IBM, HP and SUN. To keep pace with market demand, HDS also announced the availability of Hitachi Content Archive Platform as the latest addition to Active Archive family and Hitachi TagmaStore Network Storage Controller model NSC55 “Disk-Less” version. Hitachi Content Archive Platform Hitachi is the first to deliver an “active archive” solution. The Hitachi Content Archive platform is addressing customer needs for the long-term preservation, simplified management and rapid retrieval of structured and unstructured data. “Current solutions focused on storing content, not on accessing it—they lacked scalability, ease of migration across generations of future technology, and were comprised of solutions made up of disparate silos of business information. This is costing companies money today and will be an increasing problem as these silos increase in number and require future technology refreshes. We are the only company with a solution that answers the demands of records managers and IT,” said Lim Beng Lay, Regional Product Manager. Hitachi TagmaStore Network Storage Controller model NSC55 “Disk-Less” version The NSC55 “Disk-Less” version frees customers from buying unneeded disk capacity and enabling them to maximize their existing storage assets with storage virtualization. “Many organizations today actually have bought more storage than they need. But they are not sure how much they have utilized and how they can increase their utilization levels. The NSC55 “Disk-Less” gives organizations the option to leverage storage virtualization capabilities without having to buy more capacity,” said Lim Beng Lay, Regional Product Manager. Among the list of Hitachi Data Systems customers include Advanced Info Service Public Co., Ltd. (AIS), Total Access Communication Co., Ltd. (DTAC), United Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) Public Co., Ltd., Cat Telecom Public Co., Ltd. (CAT), Bank of Ayudhya, Krung Thai Bank, Thai Military Bank, Government Savings Bank, PTT Public Co., Ltd. Taveesak remarked, “In Thailand, HDS projects aggressive growth in two key markets including Enterprise Market from banking, telecom and government sectors as well as Small & Medium Business Market from manufacturing, healthcare, retail, entertainment and education sectors. We have also built a strong partnership with global partners - Sun, HP, Microsoft and Acer - along with local partners Stream I.T. Consulting Ltd, DataOne Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd., SiS Distribution (Thailand) Public Co., Ltd. to consistently expand our market coverage.” For total external storage market in Thailand, IDC Asia Pacific had reported that it is valued at US$ 45 million (1.8 billion baht) in year 2006. The demand for storage capacity will double up from 2.7 million GB to 4.5 million GB. On the other hand, the demand of data storage service will go up to US$ 53 million in year 2006 from US$ 49 million in year 2005. About Hitachi Data Systems
