EMC appoints president of Greater China operations
EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced that Denis Yip, a former IBM executive with more than 15 years of information technology experience in the United States, Asia Pacific and Japan, has joined the company as President of its Greater China operations.
Yip will report to Steven Leonard, President of EMC Asia Pacific and Japan, and lead the company’s customer operations in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. “I am extremely pleased to have an executive with Yip’s background and experience join EMC, further strengthening our ability to deliver the benefits of Information Lifecycle Management to our customers in Greater China. Yip will be a tremendous addition to our Asia Pacific/Japan executive team as we continue to expand our market leadership throughout the region,” said Leonard. “The Greater China region is such a dynamic and fast-growing market globally and offers significant opportunities for EMC. Last month, we announced a US $500 million investment program for our operations in China. This investment is primarily aimed at creating a new global software-development center based in Shanghai, but will also include enhancing the service and support capabilities we bring to our customers,” commented Leonard. Yip brings rich IT-industry focused business-management experience to EMC. He will lead EMC’s Greater China sales and service organizations with responsibility for the region’s total revenue, its current and future customers, and EMC’s various partners. Yip will work closely with Dr. Charles Fan, who is responsible for EMC’s China Research and Development operations based in Shanghai, to expand EMC’s products and services capabilities in Greater China. Yip most recently was the senior leader for the Asia Pacific storage division of IBM, and was based in Shanghai. Prior to his role leading IBM’s storage division in Asia Pacific, Yip held a variety of IBM senior management positions over the past 15 years, including appointments in the United States, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Tokyo. Yip holds a bachelor and master’s degree in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley. He also holds a MBA degree from Golden Gate University. –www.theasianbanker.com (July 31 2006)–
