Thai bourse enhances brokerages’ service quality to widen investor base
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s Board has approved a plan for the Exchange to work with the securities companies on enlarging the investor base. To keep market representatives up-to-date on financial innovations and increase the number and quality of securities companies’ services, training and study tour scholarships will be made available.
The initiative, known as the joint investor promotion program, will start in July 2007. “This long-term plan aims to enlarge the investor base and ensure the quality of marketing representatives”, SET President Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai said. “Currently there are about 5,500 marketing representatives, who are crucial in enlarging the investor base because of their direct contact with the public. To guarantee that they are up-to-date and capable, training in financial planning and financial products will be organized for them. This education will include the Thailand Securities Institute’s TFP (Thailand Financial Planning) course. Furthermore, extra incentives will be provided through scholarships for marketers to undertake study tours and overseas training,” Ms. Patareeya added. To encourage regular investment activity, marketers whose clients have been active investors for more than three months will receive priority in the allocation of scholarships. The joint investor promotion program will run from July – December 2007, and 21 securities companies have already confirmed their participation. This initiative, like the online stock trading competition ‘SET Click2WIN’, is an example of cooperation between SET and securities companies. More collaborative activities are planned. The Exchange’s current investor promotion activities include ‘SET Visits’ where investors can attend seminars at securities firms, ‘Company Visits’ where investors can visit a listed company’s site, and fairs and expos such as ‘Money Expo’ and ‘Money Channel Road Show’. Applications to join ‘SET Click2WIN: Thailand Stock Simulation’ are still being received at www.settrade.click2win For more information, please contact the Corporate Communications Dept.:
