TAIFEX and TFEX Launch Joint Education Project in Bangkok
Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX) and Taiwan Futures Exchange (TAIFEX) today announced the launch of a joint educational project as the first step for their collaboration plan based on the MoU signed in April 2007.
TFEX and TAIFEX plan to hold a three-day seminar with the support from Thailand Securities Institute (TSI), the most prominent training institute in Thailand. The joint seminar is scheduled to be held from June 4-6, 2007 in Bangkok in preparation for the launch of TFEX index options. The seminar is aimed to provide a comprehensive insight into the trading of index options in Taiwan, including the uses and applications of index options and how Taiwanese professionals and investors utilize such products to manage their risk and make profits. It also highlights the key success factors and risk issues in the perspectives of Futures Commission Merchants (FCMs).

Profits flow as MAS refocuses
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is set to surge past its full year net profit target (of USD15 million) for the 12 months ending 31-Dec-07, thanks to its third successive quarterly profit. The carrier is now optimistic of a full-year net profit of up to USD200 million, as the benefits of its three-year restructure, involving route and staff cuts, continue to flow.
The carrier is now poised to complete a long-awaited fleet renewal plan, with an RFP for up to 55 widebodies to be launched shortly.

Shanghai: Changi North? SIA-China Eastern deal could be pivotal
Fasten your seat belts – Singapore Inc is moving into Shanghai. The parties are expected to announce this week that Singapore’s government investment arm, Temasek Holdings, is teaming with Singapore Airlines (SIA) to take a 25% stake in China Eastern Airlines.

TRIS Rating Cancels Company Rating of “SCBS”
TRIS Rating Co., Ltd. has cancelled the company rating of SCB Securities Co., Ltd. (SCBS). The cancellation came at the request of SCBS since the company does not have any plans to issue debentures in the near future. Therefore, TRIS Rating will no longer monitor SCBS’s performance, and the previously-assigned “A+” company rating with “stable” outlook should not be used for reference.
