Moody’s affirms all ratings of Bank Internasional Indonesia
Moody’s Investors Service has affirmed all ratings of Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII). These include BII’s bank financial strength rating of D, long-term/short-term global local currency deposit rating of Baa3/Prime-3, issuer and foreign currency subordinated debt rating of Ba2, and long-term/short-term foreign currency deposit rating of B1/ Not Prime.

Fitch: Stable credit quality likely for Korean banks in 08
Fitch Ratings has just published a special report titled “The Korean Banks: Annual Review and Outlook”, focusing on the five major commercial banks - Kookmin Bank (’A+’/Stable), Shinhan Bank (’A'/Stable), Woori Bank (Woori, ‘A-’ (A minus)/Positive), Hana Bank (’A-’ (A minus)/Stable) and Korea Exchange Bank (KEB, ‘A-’ (A minus)/Stable) - and notes that these five banks account for about 56% of system wide loans.

Losses from mortgage fraud in U.S. to reach $2.5 billion
Falling home prices and inappropriate mortgage underwriting have grabbed the headlines and much of the blame for mortgage credit woes in recent months. But the significant rise in mortgage fraud over the past 10 years is another important trend. New research from TowerGroup predicts that losses from mortgage fraud will reach $2.5 billion (USD) in 2008 and that comparable losses will continue for several years thereafter.

HSBC announces senior appointment in Global Markets, Singapore
HSBC has announced the appointment of Amit Gupta as Managing Director, Head of Global Markets, Singapore, with effect from 1 April, succeeding John McGowan who will be retiring in June this year. Mr Gupta will report to Guy Harvey-Samuel, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Singapore and functionally to Gordon French, Managing Director for Sales and Regional Treasury Management in Asia Pacific, who is based in Hong Kong.

SMBC to open office in Qatar Financial Centre, Doha
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) announces that its application to open an office in the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) in Doha, Qatar was approved by the QFC on 8 March, 2008. SMBC is the first Japanese bank that has been granted a license by the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority.
