Global Weakest Links Rise To 19-Month High, Says Report

April 30th, 2008

Through the first quarter of 2008, 17 defaults were recorded, compared with only six in the same period last year, according to an article published today by Standard & Poor’s. The report, titled “Global Bond Markets’ Weakest Links And Monthly Default Rates,” says that four additional defaults have been recorded in April, bringing the total to 21, affecting debt worth $12.8 billion.

Mobile and Wireless Group launches in Thailand Asian-based start-up makes its mark on the region with its first handset featuring inbuilt GPS

Mobile and Wireless Group (MWg), the company which took over O2 Asia’s operations, has launched in Thailand with the unveiling of a new product featuring GPS.

MWg is a Singapore-based start-up, formed by the former management of O2 Asia, which develops and markets premium converged devices for a global market.

Deutsche Bank reports 1Q2008 net loss of EUR 141 million

Deutsche Bank reported a net loss of EUR 141 million, or 27 cents per share, for the first quarter of 2008, and a loss before income taxes of EUR 254 million. Markdowns of EUR 2.7 billion were recorded in respect of leveraged loans and loan commitments, commercial real estate and residential mortgage-backed securities (predominantly Alt-A).

Citi announces $3 billion common stock offering

April 30th, 2008

Citi announced it has commenced an offering of approximately $3 billion of common stock. Citi expects the offering to include an over-allotment option to purchase additional shares of common stock. The offering is being conducted as a public offering registered under the Securities Act of 1933.

On a pro forma basis, after giving effect to Citi’s recent issuance of $6 billion of preferred stock and an assumed issuance of $3 billion of common stock in this offering, as of March 31, 2008, Citi’s Tier One capital ratio would have been approximately 8.5%.
