Speculative-Grade Composite Spread Tightens Marginally To 638 Basis Points

Standard & Poor’s investment-grade composite spread remained unchanged yesterday at 190 basis points (bps), while its speculative-grade counterpart tightened one basis point to 638 bps. By rating, the ‘AA’ spread remained unchanged at 136 bps, ‘A’ expanded one basis point to 165 bps, ‘BBB’ remained unchanged at 226 bps, ‘BB’ tightened 2 bps to 460 bps, ‘B’ remained unchanged at 657 bps, and ‘CCC’ compressed one basis point to 982 bps.

By industry, banks and telecommunications expanded one basis point each to 267 bps and 303 bps, respectively. (more…)

Banpu reports 2009 results Greater profit driven by both coal and power businesses

Banpu Public Company Limited (BANPU) reports its financial results for the 2009 fiscal year, recording a net profit of THB 14,229 million, an increase of THB 5,001 million or 54 percent from the previous year as a result of stronger performance from both coal and power businesses.

The total net profit consisted of THB 10,444 million from coal business and THB 3,785 million from power business, accountable respectively for 73 percent and 27 percent of the total earnings. (more…)

Recovery Rates In 2008-2009 Were Below The Long-Term Average, Article Says

Ultimate recovery rates displayed considerable cyclicality in 2009, in sync with the ebb and flow of liquidity, said an article published today by Standard & Poor’s, titled “U.S. Recovery Study: Increased Defaults And Low Liquidity Depressed Recovery Rates In Early 2009 (Premium).”

“Preliminary data for 2009 suggest that the shock to liquidity from events such as the Lehman Brothers’ bankruptcy in the fall of 2008 severely affected exit valuations of defaulted securities, as well as the values of nondefaulted securities,” said Diane Vazza, head of Standard & Poor’s Global Fixed Income Research Group. MAS senior management staff movements

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced today that Shane Tregillis, currently Deputy Managing Director, Market Conduct, will leave MAS on 11 March 2010 on completion of his contract. Unisys and Bank of Taiwan continue relationship for application outsourcing and ClearPath mainframes

Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced that its Taiwanese subsidiary has received a new two-year contract from the Bank of Taiwan.
